To someone new, I am a bit shy and quiet and I don't stand out in a crowd. When my boyfriend and I go someplace as pirates, he catches the attention (being Barbossa) and I take care of the stuff in the background. I don't mind because he gives me credit for all the sewing I have done, pics I have taken and the costume ideas he has used. I love doing the research on whatever project I'm working on to make it as accurate as I can. It's like putting a puzzle together. I am a single mother with a wonderful little girl and a very loving boyfriend. I have some really awesome friends who keep an eye on me. ("Where's Jo? Oh, there she is." I'm 4'11 and easy to lose sight of in a crowd!) Although I'm shy, I love meeting new people. I don't remember names very well but I do remember faces so don't be offended if I ask your name a few times.

I am hoping our next pirate event will be a "Pirate's Ball" that will be a charity event. It is still in the beginning stages of planning and any suggestions would be appreciated.
Some of the ideas we have gathered are to have it towards the end of January. Most of us will be itching to get back into pirate gear by then. We are looking at a buffet with a cash bar, DJ, a local pirate band to sing a few songs and maybe a silent auction. Some of the charities we are looking at are Make a Wish, Children's Miracle Network, a local charity that helps disaster victims, a local charity that helps with medical care of impoverished children. We are looking to find a venue close to the KC area. Of course, like I said, this is still in the planning stages but I'm really hoping it will happen.
I've been given the task of collecting names and phone numbers of anyone interested in helping with the planning of this wonderful event. It will be a challenge for me because of being a bit quiet and shy.
